A Fun-Filled Summer at Canterbury-on-the-Lake!
It’s been an amazing summer here at Canterbury-on-the-Lake, and our senior living community in Waterford, MI, has been movin’ and groovin’! With BBQ celebrations, happy hours, live music, and more, our independent living residents’ schedules have been busy. Check out our summer recap below of exciting senior activities, and schedule a tour to see Canterbury-on-the-Lake for yourself.
Our 30th Anniversary Summer Party
We kicked off the season with a blast at Canterbury-on-the-Lake’s 30th Anniversary Party. Every year, we throw a summer party with entertainment to knock your socks off!
At our 30th Anniversary Summer Party, we had a "Purple and Pearls" theme (purple for Canterbury’s signature color, pearls to represent 30 years) and were joined by the Dave Bennet Quartet, headed up by Waterford’s own Dave Bennet (a hometown celebrity!). Residents, staff, and guests came together for an afternoon of elegance and fun with live music, delicious food, and good times together!
Red, White, and BBQ
The summer fun continued at our “Red, White, and BBQ” party! Amazing weather, patriotic decorations, and a special photo booth all combined to create an unforgettable party.
Christmas in July Party
Just because Christmas is 5 months away, doesn’t mean we can’t break out the candy canes and holiday cheer! Our annual Christmas in July party featured: Christmas carols, Santa hats, an inflatable snowman, cookies delivered to resident’s doors, and a “Christmas favorite” shrimp cocktail.
The Canterbury Olympic Games
USA! USA! Our Southminster independent senior living community hosted a week-long Olympics event, complete with medal ceremonies and Parisian flair. This event, hosted every 4 years alongside the Summer Olympics, regularly draws a crowd upwards of 40 independent living residents! The games began with a Torch Relay throughout our community, with residents passing the “flaming” beacon across campus. A Paris-themed lunch cafe also kicked off the festivities, with complimentary berets and ascots as well as a photobooth.
Thrilling competitions across a wide range of sports (including a few new ones!) were the talk of town for the next few days. Congratulations to all our gold, silver, and bronze medalists and event participants, who showcased their skills in:
- Javelin throw
- Synchronized swimming
- Archery
- Skill shooting
- Mini golf
- Paper plate toss
- Golf chipping
- Discus throw
- Shoe flinging
- Rowing
The Canterbury Olympic Games were an impressive display of expertise and athleticism, with a few new sports we hope will be introduced in LA for the 2028 Olympics (shoe flinging anyone?).
A Paris Painting Night, Tattoos & Beer event*, and of course our weekly Happy Hour helped round out the events. Thank you to all our amazing athletes and participants!
*Featuring talented tattoo artists using temporary ink, with root beer selections as well!
